Flush Mounting and Alignment for Optimal Performance

For best results, the 59NDR diffuser should be installed in a flush-mounted T-bar ceiling system. While minimal tegular acoustic tile exposure—up to 3/8” inch below the T bar—is permissible, a true flush installation helps maintain smooth airflow, reduces the potential for noise, and supports a clean architectural appearance.
Proper alignment is equally important. The diffuser face should remain level and parallel to the floor, with no tilt or lean. Care must be taken to ensure the T bar rests flush against the diffuser face and is not exposed to the supply air stream. Any obstruction in the air path can introduce whistling and negatively impact overall performance.

Managing Down-Blast Airflow and Condensation Risk

The 59NDR diffuser is supplied with vertical down-blast pattern control blades, factory set in the fully open position. Before introducing supply air, installers should verify blade orientation and make adjustments only as required by the application. To avoid condensation issues—especially near windows—it is important that the discharge air is not directed straight at glazing. Maintaining a clear, unobstructed airflow path allows the diffuser to operate as designed while protecting the surrounding finishes and improving occupant comfort.

Perimeter Placement in Cold Climate Applications

In colder climates, where outdoor temperatures approach 10°F ( 12°C) or lower, diffuser placement becomes critical. In these conditions, Nailor recommends installing the 59NDR within approximately 12 inches of the perimeter wall or window, depending on ceiling height and envelope construction.
At this distance, the vertical down blast creates an effective air curtain during heating operation. Warm supply air travels downward toward the floor, slopes toward the cold perimeter surface, and mixes with cooler air near the window. This interaction raises the air temperature near the glazing and helps offset heat loss, keeping the occupied space comfortable and stable. During cooling operation, warmer air near the window naturally rises and is efficiently returned at the ceiling.

Avoiding Short Circuiting of the Air Stream

When the diffuser is installed too far from the exterior wall—generally more than one foot in cold climate applications—the down blast air stream may short circuit, preventing it from reaching the floor. As a result, the diffuser becomes less effective at controlling perimeter heat loss, and overall comfort may be negatively impacted. Adjusting the discharge pattern closer to the wall helps maintain proper air movement and ensures the diffuser performs as intended. Correct placement not only improves thermal comfort but also supports consistent system behavior across seasonal operating modes.
